Heidi was a creative child digging through her mother's closet, dressing up in the pretty clothes, donning high heels and rifling through the jewelry box.  Even then, she knew she had a love for fashion and thought often of her desire to create her own design. As a young adult Heidi moved to Europe to pursue a career in modeling.  She quickly realized that she had a natural talent at the other end of the camera as a photographer. Planning all aspects of a shoot from the styles and setting to the actual photography, proved to be more in line with her need to express her creativity, yet she felt there was more to be done.

In 1999 Heidi once again found herself digging through that jewelry box that held so many memories from her childhood. Her eyes fell upon a lovely 36-carat smoky topaz necklace.  As she gazed at the pendant, she was struck by the desire to see the stone set in a way that showcased the natural beauty that lay in the palm of her hand.  As she held the stone up to the light, she could see in her mind the ring that it would become.  That moment was the birth of Heidi K Jewelry.

In the first year, Heidi's designs were featured in no less than 10 top fashion magazines including Town & Country, Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Seventeen.  Heidi K Jewelry became a recognized line; her pieces adorned such stars as Halle Berry, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Usher and Uma Thurman.

Although Heidi received awards for her jewelry, she finally knew she had defined herself as a designer when, while shopping one day wearing her signature simple pear ring and the sale associate asked, "is that a Heidi K ring?"  That is the moment that Heidi believed, for the first time, that a little girl's dreams really do come true.
